Wireless Networks

Wireless networks are becoming more popular with home users, so they have the benefit of roaming within the house with a notebook computer or networking computers with out having to run wires.  In order to optimize your wireless network, I recommend elevating it above common obstructions, i.e. Metal objects, leaded glass and other physical obstructions, that can easily block wireless networking signals between your sending and receiving antennas. (normal interior walls are generally not a problem)  that should give you the range you'd expect from a wireless devices.

Because wireless information is broadcast over radio signals, wireless
information is particularly vulnerable to hackers. In order to secure your network, you need to name your network something other than the default name it comes with. You also need to pass word protect the network and enable the security it has built in.

I recommend protecting your data by enabling the encryption features of your wireless devices. Most wireless devices today support WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security, which employs strong encryption to scramble the data as it’s sent through the air. This way, even if a malicious user intercepts your signals, he/she cannot decode your data without the exact same encryption key.
